Meet Sonya
Air Force veteran. Combat medic. Former Head of the Department of Veterans Services.
She's never been clearer about why she's doing this: Sonya is a servant leader whose journey from combat medic to cabinet secretary taught her that democracy thrives when we put people first.
When Sonya was recruited by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham to serve on the COVID Executive Team, she did not hesitate to step forward for her state. Her background as a combat medic and healthcare administrator provided critical support to New Mexicans during one of the most vulnerable moments in our nation’s history.
A few months later, she was appointed to the Veterans Services Department, becoming the first African American to serve as Cabinet Secretary.
For Sonya, this campaign is about more than a single election—it is about safeguarding the future of our democracy. With a proven record of public leadership, she is ready to lead with transparency, integrity, and truth. Our vote is our voice.

Voter Rights
Protecting Voter rights so that all New Mexicans can vote in any election.
If the SAVE Act becomes law, it will create so many obstacles for eligible voters.

Protecting
Veterans' Rights
I served our veterans and their families with the deep-seated belief that we don’t serve alone.
My motto is, "Every Day is Veterans Day," because we must never forget their sacrifices and the sacrifices of their families.

Protecting Democracy
Now is not the time to step back or tune out. There’s too much at stake.
Protecting our democracy demands bold leadership, smart legislation, reliable technology, and most importantly, the collective will of the people.
